Who we are…

This web page was registered by the Association County Commissioners of Georgia (www.accg.org) for the purposes of both compiling water related web links and promoting a series of water related projects that have been produced by ACCG while under contract with public and private organizations. In 1997, ACCG was awarded a grant by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division and the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority to initiate the Georgia Water Management Campaign. This four year environmental initiative resulted in the development of a series of technical assistance tools for use by elected and appointed local government officials. The tools included new guidebooks, videos, case studies, maps and brochures on the topic of water resource management. All of the materials were ultimately produced on a compact disc entitled Water Resources – A Toolkit for Local Governments. In addition, two hundred and fifty hard copy “tool kits” that contained all of the materials produced by the Campaign were produced by the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and provided in bulk to regional development centers located throughout Georgia. This training tool included power point presentations that could be utilized by individuals for local presentations on water resources. The funding for these tool kits as well as support for funding of the production of the compact discs was provided by the national Water Systems Council (http://www.watersystemscouncil.org)

In 2001, the water compact disc was combined with a two compact disc set entitled – Watersheds of Georgia. This set identified key land uses within each of Georgia’s fifty two major watersheds. The new three c.d. set was mass produced under the title of Tools for Protecting Georgia’s Water Resources. The production of this set was sponsored by ACCG, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and the Georgia Municipal Association. Copies of this set were mailed to Georgia local governments, legislators and various state agencies.

ACCG is currently under contract with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region IV office in Atlanta, GA for the development of a new compact disc on the topic of source water management. This new c.d. will allow the user to follow a template that will assist with the initial phase development of a local source water management plan. This project is scheduled to be finalized in mid-October and ready for release later this year.

ACCG is also under contract with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region IV office in Atlanta, GA to develop Tools for Water Resource Management compact disc that will allow the user to access water resource information electronically for Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Mississippi and Kentucky. This project is scheduled to be finalized in mid-October and ready for release later this year.

As new projects are undertaken by ACCG on water resource management, they will be announced and posted on this web site. As your organization prepares similar tools on this topic, please contact us if you are interested in discussing having these materials considered for possible links to our site. We are committed to providing factual and helpful materials to a wide audience to assist with the expansion of water policy development and water resource education in Georgia.
